*21.9 billion bottles and cans were bought in California last year.
*California collects $1.2 billion in can and bottle deposits.
*74% of the bottles and cans sold in California are recycled.
*There are 1200 recycling centers statewide.
Sounds like a pretty healthy recycling program, doesn’t it?
Well, it’s not.
It seems the California politicians can’t keep their hands off the money. Since 2002, they have raided the recycling money to the tune of $450 million.
All those deposits consumers pay on bottles and cans, which should be supporting the recycling program, are being used to fund other projects. It has gotten so bad that the state has been closing recycling centers (over 1600 so far) all across the state.
California’s politicians are among the worst in the country. They have run one of the most robust economies in the world into the ground. It seems they can take any good program and ruin it in only a few years.
We need to recycle the politicians.
