The entire waterfall system consists of 275 falls along a short stretch of only 1.67 miles. Most of the falls are over 200 feet high.
The Devil's Throat
One of the most impressive falls, named descriptively as the Devil’s Throat, thunders down from over 260 feet high.

The falls were first discovered in 1541 by the Spanish Conquistador Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca.
The entire area, as seen from the aerial photograph, is flat and endless jungle that drains to the falls, making these falls the highest volume falls in the world.
The falls straddle the border of Brazil and Argentina, and are accessible from the town of Foz do Iguaçu (Brazil), and the town of Puerto Iguazú (Argentina).
